A thousand paper cranes for peace

alt

Making paper cranes Monday in the lobby of the West Wyandotte Branch Library, 1737 N. 82nd, were, left to right, Paul Hawkins, Kansas City, Kansas; Jaymes, Wyandotte County; Dave Mills, librarian; Lisa Gaume Jones, adult services associate; and Laura Loveless, branch manager. (Staff photo)

Loveless said the paper crane-making project is the library’s young adult committee’s way to commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001, anniversary.
The attempt to make 1,000 paper cranes to make a wish come true – in this case, a peaceful America – is in holding with a Japanese legend, according to Loveless.
By Monday evening, about 600 paper cranes were suspended from beams in the library. Loveless said the project will continue through Friday.
