Sizzle steals show at playground dedication

alt

Sizzle, the T-Bones’ mascot, stole the show at the groundbreaking Aug. 30 for a new playground at Emerson Park, 29th and Strong Avenue. Four new handicapped-accessible playgrounds will be built in four Kansas City, Kansas, parks. Students from the nearby Emerson Elementary School attended the announcement. (Staff photo)

Sizzle received the most applause at the Emerson Park playground groundbreaking Aug. 30, even though he didn't make any speeches.
Adam Ehlert of the T-Bones said the T-Bones set aside funds for community projects such as this. The T-Bones contributed $200,000 through its uncommitted recreation fund to upgrade the playgrounds at four parks here. That is half the cost of the upgrade for eight parks.
Dave Hurrelbrink, chairman of the Wyandotte County Parks Foundation, said this is just a start, and the foundation is asking for assistance in building other accessible playgrounds in the community. Four more handicapped-accessible playgrounds are planned. The Renaissance Festival is co-sponsoring a dinner with the parks foundation to raise funds.
