Local Democrats have started an online petition drive against putting Wyandotte County in with western Kansas on a redistricting map.

   Some local Democrats also are encouraging residents to make phone calls to members of the redistricting committees in the House and Senate.

   Last week, a map surfaced on the committee's website, introduced by the House chairman of the redistricting committee, that would place Wyandotte County in with many western Kansas counties in the 1st Congressional District.

   Currently, Wyandotte County is with Johnson and Douglas counties in the 3rd District. The map that places Wyandotte county with western Kansas is on the legislative committee’s website at http://redistricting.ks.gov/_Plans/Draft_Plans/eisenhower.html.
