Christ the King Catholic Church, 3024 N. 53rd, is planning a Light of the World retreat Feb. 10-12.
Edwardsville United Methodist Church, 302 N. 4th, Edwardsville, will hold its Second Saturday Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 11. The menu includes chili and vegetable soup, salads, desserts, coffee, tea, and lemonade. A donation of $7 for adults and $3 for children is requested.
Grandview Christian Church, 8550 Parallel Parkway, is collecting canned goods and dry goods for the H.E.L.P. 3:17 community food pantry in Kansas City, Kan. The Keenagers at the church have scheduled a luncheon for Tuesday, Feb. 7.
The American Baptist Women at Judson Baptist Church will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6.
From 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, the Holy Women series at Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan., will discuss Nawal el Saadawi, an Egyptian writer, doctor, and sociologist who has helped lead the movement for women’s rights in the Arab world. A chili supper and silent auction fundraiser for Open Door Christian School will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at the school, 3033 N. 103rd Terrace. Admission is $5 for adults, $3.50 for children 4 to 12 years old, free for children under 4, and a family pass for $20.
Stony Point Christian Church, 149 S. 78th, will hold its annual meeting at 12:15 p.m. Feb. 5 in the Cole Activity Center. A Valentine Dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 12. The charge is $10 for adults, $5 for children 5 to 12 and free for children 4 and younger. The meal and entertainment are sponsored by the Bible Bowl at the church. Stony Point’s Storehouse Ministry provided 74 people with groceries, as well as a hot meal and clothing on Jan. 18. The Storehouse is collecting donations of groceries, clothing and shoes.
New members of the vestry, the official governing board at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1300 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan., are Rich Lavin, Janice Mock and Karyn Walden-Forest. Returning members are Ann Hill and Joe Steineger Jr. Continuing officers are Charles Van Middlesworth, senior warden; Pat Lavin, clerk; and Sharon Klein, treasurer. The election took place Sunday, Jan. 29, at the parish annual meeting.
A spaghetti dinner to benefit the Sisters, Servants of Mary, is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb.5, at St. Patrick’s Parish Center, 94th and State Avenue, Kansas City, Kan. Donations are $8 for adults and $3 for children. The meal will include Italian sausage and spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. Carryout meals are available for Super Bowl Sunday. The event will also feature a variety booth. The Sisters, Servants of Mary, are a group of women religious with a nursing ministry. They provide in-home nursing care, free of charge, throughout the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area for persons who are critically ill or dying. They live solely off the donations of their friends and benefactors and fund-raising efforts like the spaghetti dinner. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. The quilt project at Zion United Church of Christ, 2711 N. 72nd, finished 31 quilts and delivered them, along with gift card donations, to the homeless at Connelly Hall for Christmas. The next quilt workshop will be at 5 p.m. Feb. 6.
