Business West will sponsor a social media workshop starting with a breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, in Room 3632 Flint Hall at the Kansas City Kansas Community College.
The keynote speaker will be Paige Cahill, the regional development director with Constant Contact. Her company provides information that helps small businesses and nonprofit organizations with affordable online marketing tools.
Then at 9 a.m. those attending will move to the computer laboratory in Room 3619A of Flint Hall for a “hands-on” session that will examine participants’ websites. Participants will learn how to improve their sites.
Two of the workshop leaders will be Malia Yang of the Wyandotte County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau and Bridget Koan of the Kansas City, Kan., Area Chamber of Commerce. Both work with their organizations’ marketing efforts including websites and email. This session will end at 11 a.m.
The co-sponsors for the workshop will be the Community College and the Chamber of Commerce. The workshop cost will be $15 for Business West and Chamber of Commerce members and those affiliated with the college and $20 for others.
Checks for the workshop should be made to Kansas City Kansas Community College and sent to Marisa Gray at 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan., 66112.
Business West continues to gather support for the proposed State Avenue Community Improvement District that will extend from 64th to 94th streets and the 78th Street corridor from State to Riverview avenues. This benefit district will focus on three core issues—appearance, security and marketing.
A “clean team” will pick up debris in the right-of-way; security personnel will complement officers from the West Patrol, Community Police and the Community College. Marketing efforts will focus on efforts that will help existing businesses in the corridor and work with others in attracting new businesses.
Area business owners and managers need to mark the evening of Thursday, Sept. 19 on their calendars. Business West will hold its annual dinner meeting at 6 p.m. at the home of Dr. Tim and Allison DeWitt at 4200 N. 123rd Ter. in the Piper community.
There will be no cost for the meal or the meeting; however, reservations are encouraged. This will be an opportunity for nonmembers to learn more about Business West. For more information, telephone 913-766-4300 or 913-406-6266 (cell) or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
