Is it just me, or does it seem we just finished one election and another one faces us? Here we are in 2013 and now it is time for campaigning and voting for our city officials.
Leavenworth Road Association doesn’t want to feel left out, so we are also conducting our annual election of some of our board positions. We begin nominations in January and continue receiving names for nomination until the April election of our new board.
I can also take this opportunity to advise of Leavenworth Road Association’s policy on the candidates in any election, who are always welcome to speak at any of meetings to introduce themselves, the position they are running for, and the ideas of what they would like to accomplish in serving the community. As a not-for-profit organization and according to LRA’s bylaws, we can welcome these candidates, but we cannot and will not endorse any candidate through our association.
It is not only the candidates who are always welcome at any of our meetings, it is an open meeting and anyone , from any area, is encouraged to attend. We have informational meetings that pertain to the entire community, no limitations.
We also welcome any and all candidates running for office, city, state or federal, to take part in our annual parade, again this does not represent endorsement in the elections.
Now that I was able to mention our parade, get your calendar out, mark the date of Sept. 15, 2013. The route should be repaved by them and it will be smooth sailing, or walking, marching, riding or trotting.
We have many events scheduled , some for LRA and some by volunteering with others having events. Although LRA is short for Leavenworth Road Association, it also describes Listen Respect Always. We hope if you haven’t attended a meeting or one of our events, we will see you in 2013. We will be at Davis Hall, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 26, to help Schlagle Library at Wyandotte County Lake Park with the Eagle Day presentation. Stop by, enjoy the program and visit for a while.
Our next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 12 for dinner and social hour, and 7 p.m. for the meeting. Google representatives will be guest speakers.
Lou Braswell is the executive director of the Leavenworth Road Association.
