Many nonprofit social service agencies rely heavily on volunteers to help fulfill their missions. One such agency is Big Brothers Big Sisters. They have 115 Kauffman Scholars waiting for mentors; the majority is young women who need a Big Sister. What a meaningful way to make a difference in the life of a young person in our community. Check out the video about a Big and her “Little” at http://bit.ly/GzPZDF. To sign up as a “Big” go to http://www.bbbskc.org/ or contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Communities in Schools are another program that works because of the volunteers involved. CIS will hold Reality U (a financial literacy experience) at various high schools in Wyandotte County. They need interested volunteers to help make each of these events a truly meaningful experience for students. The first Reality U event is at Wyandotte High School on Nov. 7. Volunteers are needed for sessions 1, 7:25 a.m. to 8:50 a.m.; session 2, 9:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.; session 3, 1 p.m. to 12:20 p.m. and session 4, 12:50 to 2:20 p.m. Volunteers can work one or more sessions or more. Training will be provided. Additional sessions will occur at Harmon High School Nov. 21 and 22; Schlagle High School Dec. 5; and Washington High School Dec. 11 and 12. If you want more information on how you or maybe your work group can help with one or all of these projects, contact Ashley at 1-785-856-5190 or at email@example.com.
