With summer comes longer days and the feeling we have a bit more time on our hands. A good thing to do with extra time is to volunteer. There are recurring opportunities that local agencies have. Volunteers play an important role that helps the agency fulfill its mission to serve the community. Check these opportunities and see if one appeals to you.

Reach Out and Read is gearing up for the summer. Volunteers are currently being recruited to read to children in one of 49 pediatric clinics in the area. If you don’t want to read you can volunteer to host a book drive, assist with a special event, volunteer to be part of the Speakers Bureau, or sort and label books. Providence Medical Center is recruiting volunteers for a variety of positions. Volunteers are needed to serve as greeters, answers phones, schedule appointments and general clerical support in certain departments. Volunteers can help in outpatient rehabilitation with preparing the equipment. In addition volunteers are always welcome to help in the gift shop, at the information desk and provide support to various nursing units. Cancer Action is seeking responsible volunteers to help answer the phone and greet clients in the Wyandotte County office. RSVP of Wyandotte County is recruiting volunteers 55 and over. Special areas of need are volunteers to assist the elderly, work in area food pantries and be tutors and mentors for young people.
