On a recent Tuesday afternoon 16 employees of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, specifically the BNSF Business Car Team, wanted to do some team building. So instead of doing the “trust” fall, they opted to volunteer and help a local nonprofit in our community.

This team consists of food service workers like chefs and servers. They opted to provide service in a food related program. They spent the afternoon at the Gibbs Road Farm, part of Cultivate KC.

The timing of the service day was perfect, coming just before the biggest snowfall of the year.

The BNSF Car team divided into small work teams and spread out over the two acres that makes up the Gibbs Road Farm.

Most efforts were directed at getting the farm ready for the spring growing season. The herb garden was trimmed back; hay was used to mulch the area and a nice rock border completed the work. Trenches were dug to control drainage and prevent soil erosion.

A wood pile was moved, flower pots sorted, and beds were readied for spring planting. This was a great afternoon for team building and a great way to help the Gibbs Road Farm. Check out the pictures.
