A few weeks back I reviewed a number of volunteer needs centered on the holidays. Today I wanted to share others ways that you can help to make the holidays special for others.
Some of us like to shop. You might consider contacting one of the Christmas Stores sponsored by local agencies and purchase items needed to see that the store is well stocked. The angel tree at local retail venues allows you to select an angel from the tree; the angel has a child’s name and what they want. You can also contact a local agency and adopt a family or older adult.
Some agencies have a wish list of items they need. These may be office supplies, art supplies, gift cards, hats and mittens, personal care items, toys, books, and non-perishable food items. Other organizations are looking for help to put on a Christmas party for their clients. The list goes on.
To check out agencies and the holiday needs, you can go to www.unitedway-wyco.org and then click on “You Can Help for the Holidays.” Here you will find a list of local nonprofits and what their holiday needs are including who to contact if you can help fill a need.
