I know it is only October, but there are a lot of plans underway to help our community during the holidays. A number of the plans need volunteers. I will share a few of those with you.
The Salvation Army at Harbor Lights needs volunteers to take family applications from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 21-25, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Additional volunteers are needed for dates and times to help with the angels for the Angel Tree. To volunteer contact Major Michelle Heaver at 913-232-5400 or at Michele_Heaver@usc.salvationarmy.org.
The Center for Hope will prepare and serve Thanksgiving dinner to approximately 200 guests. Volunteers are needed to help from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thanksgiving. If interested in helping contact Marsha at 913-233-2511.
The AYS Winter Chill will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Dec. 3. Volunteers will set up and decorate from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., distribute gifts, serve food, bus tables, help with dishes and tear down for the annual winter party, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. There is a need for volunteers to prepare for the event to make centerpieces for the tables, and gifts for the 200 guests, wrap food boxes and other tasks in preparation for the Dec. 3. This preparation will happen before the Thanksgiving break, date to be announced. Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. For more information or to volunteer contact Miranda at 913-831-2820, Ext. 219 or at email@example.com.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City suggest you “declutter for kids.” Hold a used clothing donation drive at your work, church or home to benefit BBBS. They will send trucks to pick up your donations on an agreed date or time. If interested, contact Brittany at 816-777-2893 or at Brittany@bbbskc.org.
