The YMCA needs volunteers for two programs in Kansas City, Kan. Volunteers need to be recruited for the Early Learning Readiness program operating in one of the apartment complexes in town. These volunteers will engage in play with caregivers and children and model positive behavior and promote early learning. All volunteers are subject to a criminal background check. The other opportunity with the YMCA is for a volunteer computer instructor. If you are skilled on the computer and can share basic computer literacy skills to those who have never used a computer, YMCA wants to recruit you. The classes will be held at 8th Street YMCA in Kansas City, Kan. Classes will be 90 minutes on Wednesday mornings. All volunteers are subject to a criminal background check. Cold weather is moving in. There are a number of our citizens who don’t have a warm coat for these falling temperatures. Each year, the Salvation Army collects and distributes coats to those in need. This year the coat distribution will be on Nov. 19. The Salvation Army Harbor Lights Village is recruiting volunteers to help prepare for the annual coat distribution. The preparation will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 18. Volunteers are needed for the actual distribution from 8:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 19. Next Step KC is gearing up for tax season. Currently they are recruiting volunteers to help staff the many VITA tax sites throughout the metro area. TurnStyles Thrift Store (a program of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas) is recruiting volunteers to assist at the thrift store and work in a fun retail environment.
